Floating Fountains for Lakes & Ponds

 Most ponds and small lakes suffer from poor water quality caused by one common problem. Water stagnation! This occurs when waters are still with no form of natural flow, movement or circulation. The result of this effect is generally low oxygen content and temperature stratification of the water, which is detrimental to fish populations and can encourage the growth of unwanted vegetation and algae. In addition still stagnant waters are excellent breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Moving water provides a less favorable environment for mosquito larvae to hatch which in turn keeps the mosquito population down. If your pond suffers from stagnant water and/or excessive algae bloom then you can install an aeration device like a fountain to provide movement and mixing of the water layers for better overall pond health. In the spring and fall as water temperatures change, thermal inversion can kill fish as layers low in oxygen content shift their location. Circulating the water can help to avoid these problems and result in an overall healthier condition of pond and lake waters. A fountain will also keep your pond cooler in the summer which is very important for fish populations in hot southern states.
